IN THIS LESSON
If they invited you, they want to hire you.
Being called for an interview is a signal, not a test. Learn to read the room, project yourself into the role, and turn a two-way conversation into an offer. Recruiters are more eager to impress you than you think.

“If you’re invited for an interview, they want to hire you.”
While job interviews can be terrifying, being invited is a clear signal. See it as a conversation. Recruiters are more eager to impress you than you think. Job readiness and an ‘all hands on deck’ mindset will get you through.
How Interviews Really Work?
Broadly speaking - AI or not - interviews assess you on four dimensions: role fit (can you do the job?), cognitive (solve problems?), leadership (get the big picture? can you lead others?), culture fit/add (is this the right place?).
One Big Mistake
Stop obsessing with Role Fit - “I can do the job” - when the real assessment is on the other vectors, for which many 40+ end up at a disadvantage (age bias, new business models & titles). Relax, this is just a friendly chat with future colleagues, not as school exam - it’s a better look not to know all the answers if you can demonstrate problem-solving skills (how you would approach it).

Offer Stage
Once an offer is made, there’s always room for negotiation. Borrow the privilege of a straight white man: women, returnees, and long-time job seekers are often reluctant to negotiate. Pick your battles, and use our 3 gambits smartly (and gracefully). Look at total rewards rather than base. Flex with our calculator.
